Be Read — Poetry in Every Breath | Sam Tumblin

Why when we are dead

It’s the only time we can be read

Stretched out on that table

Directing all fables

That’s when the mortician

Assumes two position

Figuring what led you to lay

Was it health or dismay

Later stitch you back

Embalming fluid to now pack

You have now been read

All the reasons you’re dead

Ironic how that all could end

All the ailments you defend

To be stretch out like a doll

Now the mortician knows all

Why when we are dead

Only time we can be read

Stretched out on that table

Directing all fables

That’s when the mortician

Assumes the position

Figuring what led to lay

Was it health or dismay

All the reasons you’re dead

You have now been read

You have now been read
