    THE MEASURE OF A HEART
    By Sam Tumblin

It is amazing how we guard the ones we love,
Like a sparrow sheltering its young above.
Feeding, clothing, giving what we can,
Even surrendering pieces of ourselves by hand.

For those who have known such love,
There is a comfort that rises from above.
A quiet peace that cannot be bought,
Found in every selfless deed we’ve wrought.

To know you eased another’s pain,
Or helped them stand through wind and rain,
Is a reward beyond wealth’s art—
The true measure of a caring heart.

If you’ve abandoned love as a hopeless try,
Believing every effort passed you by,
Take a moment and let your spirit start,
Open the door that’s locked your heart.

For love has a way of finding room,
Even in seasons shadowed by gloom.
And when it arrives, you’ll understand the part
That makes compassion the measure of a heart.

It is amazing how we guard the ones we love,
Like a sparrow sheltering its young above.
For in giving more than we can afford,
We discover the heart’s greatest reward.

  • LOVE’S DAGGER BY SAM TUMBLIN

    LOVE’S DAGGER BY SAM TUMBLIN

    LOVE’S DAGGER
    By Sam Tumblin

    You say you love me,
Yet I see a dagger in your hand.
    Perhaps this is our destiny,
Stranded upon our own lonely land.

    Standing eye to eye,
    Neither willing to turn away.
    Beneath the silence lies
    A wound awaiting its day.

    Forevermore the tears we cry,
Falling like rain through endless night.
Love and pain walk side by side,
Locked within the same dark light.

    You say you love me,
And perhaps your words are true.
Yet every kiss bears a sharpened edge,
Cutting deeper than it should do.

    Still we remain,
Bound by passion, bound by strife.
    Seeking endless bliss together,
    Living love’s dagger life.

    STILL BEATING
    By Sam Tumblin

    My heart still beats,
Though time has taken its receipts.
    A slow and steady pitter-patter,
    Chasing dreams that scarcely matter.

    Aimlessly I wander on,
    Singing life’s unending song.
Beyond the lines of right and wrong,
    Unplugged, yet somehow still strong.

    My heart still beats,
    Defying shadows, dodging defeat.
    Past the questions asking why,
Past the fears that once ran high.

    Here for reasons yet unknown,
Walking roads not always my own.
    Bearing burdens, carrying scars,
    Still reaching toward distant stars.

    Past living shy,
No cage remains, no tears to cry.
    Only echoes in the sky
    Whispering softly, “Tell me why?”

    Yet my heart still beats,
    Refusing silence, refusing retreat.
Through every loss and every song,
    Unplugged, yet moving along.
