The Raven’s Heart

By Sam Tumblin

Black is the color of the raven, Some say it has no heart, so it’s forever brazen. With feathers dark as midnight’s veil, It carries secrets no words can unveil.

A beak of steel to penetrate the fray, Razor-sharp talons to tear and rend away. Its eyes burn bright with a shadowed stare, As if it knows the secrets we fear to share.

It glides through skies where darkness reigns, A silent witness to sorrow and pain. Perched upon branches, a harbinger of dread, Whispering tales of the living and dead.

But who can judge what lies within, Beneath those feathers, black as sin? Perhaps a heart beats beneath that disguise, With mysteries hidden from mortal eyes.

So fear not the raven for its darkened hue, For appearances rarely reveal what is true. Even in darkness, where shadows depart, Who knows what beats in the raven’s heart?
