THE SHADOW WITHIN

In the dark, do you see the shadows that peer?
A stillness fills the air, while silence draws near.
You speak aloud to the shadow; no voice replies,
As the figure slowly turns, then disappears from your eyes.

You run, trying to catch what you thought you had seen,
Then stop in your tracks, blaming it all on caffeine.
But the shadow returns and walks by your side,
And suddenly you realize there’s nowhere to hide.

For the shadow you fear, the one you can’t outrun,
Has followed your footsteps since your life had begun.
You search through the darkness, wondering why it appears,
Only to discover it’s been living within you for years.

‘Cause…
